Habitare 2016, And Thought Bubbles

ENG Habitare 2016 was, in my opinion, the best in years! I stayed for several hours, wandering around the exhibition area lost in thought, perhaps inspired by Ajatuskupla (or 'Thought Bubble'), a large-size installation (by Jopsu and Timo Ramu, Design agency Musuta) in the Ahead hall showcasing modern Finnish design.

In the same hall, the Trash Materials (Plastic Living Room) exhibition provided examples on how to turn waste plastic into new furniture and household objects.

FIN Habitare 2016 oli mielestäni paras vuosiin! Unohduin ajatuksissani useiksi tunneiksi kuljeskelemaan messutiloissa, ehkä inspiroituneena Ajatuskuplasta, suurikokoisesta tilateoksesta, jonka design- ja suunnittelutoimisto Musutan Jopsu ja Timo Ramu olivat luoneet suomalaista nykymuotoilua esittelevän Ahead-hallin kiintopisteeksi. Samasta hallista löytyi myös Trash Materials ja Plastic living room -näyttely, eli vastaus siihen kuinka jätemuovista syntyy uusia huonekaluja ja kodin esineitä.

Retro red – I thought the best exhibition stand belonged to Tre, a lifestyle store selling durable, well-designed classics of the future to nice people... I especially liked the touches of retro red and the Norsu ('Elephant') money boxes by Palaset that neatly sat on the counter. ⎮ Ständeistä minusta ihanin oli retron punainen Tre, ja erityisesti sen hyllyillä nökottävät Palaset Norsu-säästölippaat. Tre on omien sanojensa mukaan mukavien ihmisten lifestyle-myymälä, josta saa kestäviä, hyvin suunniteltuja tulevaisuuden klassikoita.

Be books – While waiting for the upcoming Helsinki Book Fair, there were also books in the air: new and fresh Cozy Publishing titles, lifelike Mess: The Manual of Accidents and Mistakes spotted at the Signals exhibition (below) and children's own Talo kulman takana (Etana Editions). The Plan B stand featured upcycled trays that combine old book covers and suitcase lids, among others. ⎮ Ilmassa oli Helsingin kirjamessuja odotellessa myös kirjoja: uuden ja raikkaan Cozy Publishing -kustantamon teoksia, Signals-osastolta (alla) bongattu elämänmakuinen Mess: The Manual of Accidents and Mistakes ja lasten oma Talo kulman takana (Etana Editions). Plan B -osastolla esillä oli muiden muassa kierrätystarjottimia, joissa yhdistyvät vanhat kirjan- ja matkalaukun kannet. 

Cuba & chaos – Built with Trend Analyst Susanna Björklund, the Signals exhibition focused on interior design trends, wrapping future trends and weak signals of the moment under four different themes: "Comfortable chaos," "Inhouse love," "Common roots" and "Design, art or both?". The polaroid shots above fall under the "Comfortable chaos", depicting Cuba with its glowing colors, and rack and ruin beauty. – I could have stayed here, in the sleeping alcove and next to the plant-burgeoning recycled sofa... Buona notte! ⎮ Trendianalyytikko Susanna Björklundin kanssa rakennettu sisustuksen trendeihin keskittyvä Signals paketoi tulevaisuuden trendit ja tämän hetken heikot signaalit kokonaisuudeksi, jossa avattuja trendejä olivat "Sotku", "Rakkaus kodissa", "Juuret" ja "Taidetta vai muotoilua?". Yläpuoliset polaroid-kuvat lukeutuvat "Sotku"-teeman alle ja kuvaavat Kuubaa, sen hehkuvia värejä ja rapistuvaa kauneutta. – Tänne, makuusoppeen ja kasveja versovan kierrätyssohvan äärelle olisi voinut jäädä... Buona notte!

Habitare 2015: Trash Cuisine, and Other Curiosities

ENG Gosh, time flies - its already been almost a month since Habitare, the largest furniture, interior decoration and design fair in Finland!  I knew right away what I liked, though, and here come my picks – Trash cuisine!

FIN Hitsi, kun aika rientää - Habitaresta on jo melkein kuukausi! Minä kuitenkin tiesin heti, mistä pidän, ja tässä tulevat minun poimintani – Trash cuisine!

Thought-provoking edible plates, can you imagine?

Great idea: old spoons as handles... and in case you're wondering, its funghi growing in the glass cylinders! 

Natalia Ritari's "Hani" luminaires, inspired by honeycombs, are made of waste material and used acrylic. - The wall lamp modules can be used both as lamps and acoustic lighting elements.

Recyclie's Habitare 2014

ENG Habitare and in particular the Trash Design exhibition is one of Recyclie's favorite things to do in September. At this year's Habitare, I especially enjoyed the May Day competition entries in which the designers had devised and implemented ideas for structures and objects needed at a summer picnic or day trip.

It was wonderful to see how the small exhibition-goers brought each shortlisted canopy to life! In addition, I spotted five chairs and five lamps made of recycled materials.

FIN Habitare ja etenkin sen Trash Design -näyttely on Recyclien lempipuuhia syyskuussa. Tänä vuonna nautin erityisesti May Day -kilpailutöistä, joissa suunnittelijat olivat kehitelleet ja toteuttaneet ajatuksia kesäisellä huviretkellä tai piknikillä tarvittavista rakenteista ja esineistä. – Oli ihanaa seurata, kuinka pienet messuvieraat saivat näyttelyhallissa jokaisen loppukilpailuun valitun ehdotuksen elämään! Lisäksi bongasin viisi kierrätysistuinta ja -valaisinta.

RE: Habitare

ENG One more peek at Habitare, the furniture, interior decoration and design fair organized in Helsinki on 18–22 September!

I went with Marzia and also got to help out my friend Anu at the Johtojemma stand (offering solutions for organizing all your household wires). – And I was surprised to find, here and there, an imaginary forest.

1) Shadows in Birch Forest was the main work (See the above photo) of the Trash Goes Architecture exhibition converting wood from the Pavilion built for Helsinki World Design Capital into picnic-greenhouses, garden pavilions, bridges and benches based on drafts by designers and architects. It was designed by the Chinese architect company United Design Group and carried out in the premises of Trash Factory in Finland by a group of students from the School of Form of Poznan, Poland. 

2)At the Trash Design special exhibition, by curator Isa Kukkapuro-Enbom and trash designer Henrik Enbom, I liked the idea of transforming your souvenir olive oil can adorned by a blackbird to a lamp using simple hardware, treaded rods and loop hangers, as well as miscellaneous wooden parts (small photo). 

3)On the other side of the exhibition center, I fell in love with the organic Aamumaa soaps made of arctic ingredients and essential oils, with an artist's view of real size hoofs or paws of forest animals printed on them. 

Martin Tubiana: Paperbox

FIN Vielä pikkukurkistus Habitareen, Helsingissä 18.–22.9 järjestettyihin huonekalu-, sisustus- ja designmessuihin, joilla kävin Marzian kanssa ja sain myös auttaa ystävääni Anua Johtojemman ständillä (Johtojemma tarjoaa ratkaisuja kaikkien kodin johtojen järjestämiseen). Yllätyin löytäessäni messuilta, sieltä täältä, kuvitteellisen metsän. 

1)Trash Goes Architecture -näyttely oli kokoelma Helsinki World Design Capital -tapahtumaan rakennetusta ja nyt puretusta paviljongista suunnittelijoiden ja arkkitehtien ehdotusten pohjalta koottuja piknik-kasvihuoneita, puutarhahuvimajoja, siltoja ja penkkejä. Näyttelyn päätyö, Shadows in Birch Forest (yläkuvassa), oli kiinalaisen arkkitehtuuritoimisto United Design Groupin käsialaa, ja joukko puolalaisopiskelijoita School of Formista, Poznanista toteutti sen Trash Factoryn tiloissa. 

2)Kuraattori Isa Kukkapuro-Enbomin ja trash-suunnittelija Henrik Enbomin Trash Design -erikoisnäyttelyssä pidin ideasta muuntaa mustarastaan koristama matkamuisto-oliiviöljykanisteri lampuksi, jonka valmistukseen riittävät yksinkertaiset ​​metalli- ja puuosat (pikkukuva). 

3)Aivan messukeskuksen toisella puolella tykästyin Aamumaan luomusaippuoihin, jotka valmistetaan käsin kotimaisista aineksista ja eteerisistä öljyistä ja joihin painetaan mukaelma metsän eläinten todellista kokoa olevista kavioista tai tassuista.

Henrik Enbom: Last Supper

ITA Ancora una sbirciatina ad Habitare, fiera di mobili, arredamento e design organizzata a Helsinki il 18–22 Settembre (sono andata con Marzia e ho anche avuto modo di aiutare la mia amica Anu allo stand di Johtojemma, un'azienda che offre soluzioni per l'organizzazione di tutti i cavi della casa) dove ho scoperto, qui e là, una foresta immaginaria. 

1)Shadows in Birch Forest (vedi foto sopra) era il lavoro principale della mostra Trash Goes Architecture che ha trasformato il legno del Padiglione costruito per Helsinki World Design Capital in serre da picnic, padiglioni da giardino, ponti e panchine secondo bozze di designer e architetti. L'opera in questione è stata disegnata dall'agenzia di architettura United Design Group cinese e realizzata nei locali del Trash Factory in Finlandia da un gruppo di studenti della Scuola della Forma di Poznan, in Polonia. 

2)Alla mostra speciale Trash Design della curatrice Isa Kukkapuro-Enbom e Trash designer Henrik Enbom mi piaceva l'idea di creare una lampada con un barattolo d'olio d'oliva di latta, con un merlo stampato sopra, utilizzando solo un po' di legno ed alcuni articoli di ferramenta (foto piccola).

3)Sul lato opposto del centro espositivo, mi sono innamorata dei saponi organici Aamumaa con ingredienti artici e oli essenziali, decorati con zoccoli o zampe di animali della foresta di dimensioni reali.

Essential sails I'm not that nautical myself (although I love going on boat trips), but look at these sail pouffes by Spanish Dvelas turning all types of sails, grammages and materials, even torn ones, to contemporary designs in limited editions: "Each sail with its own history is labeled with an inscription that provides information on the origin of the sail, home port, ship, type of sail, and the original sailmaker... " The cellulose fiber "Size" purses by Essent'ial (Italy, not pictured) is a perfect complement to the sails. (Also check out Essent'ial's collaboration with Finnish Marimekko: containers in natural materials that are suitable for foodstuffs.) ⎮ Minä en itse ole kovinkaan merihenkinen (vaikka rakastankin laivamatkoja), mutta nämä espanjalaisen Dvelasin lattiatyynyt ovat mainioita! Yritys valmistaa nykyaikaisia huonekaluja kaikenlaisista​, jopa repeytyneistä purjeista, joista jokaisella on oma historiansa. Kaikissa tuotteissa on merkintä, joka kertoo purjeen alkuperästä, kotisatamasta, aluksesta, purjetyypistä, alkuperäisestä purjeentekijästä...  Italialaisen Essent'ialin "Size"-sellukuitupussukat (ei kuvissa) sopivat täydellisesti espanjalaispurjeisiin. (Tsekkaa myös Essent'ialin yhteistyössä Marimekon kanssa valmistamat luonnonmateriaalikorit, jotka soveltuvat ruoan säilyttämiseen.)

PS There were pallets everywhere at Habitare, and not that I don't like them (love them), just wondering what's the next big thing going to be? ⎮ Habitare-messuilla oli kuormalavoja kaikkialla, ja vaikka pidänkin niistä valtavasti, ihmettelen vain, mikä on seuraava iso hitti?
