Crochet Nairobi–Helsinki

ENG A week to go! As a friend of the partially reclaimed Mifuko products I could not miss Mari Martikainen and Minna Impiö's "You and I General Store", a community art work prepared in collaboration with Kenyan women. 

The crocheted piece is as red as the earth color staining both the lower edges of the houses and clothes in Kenya, and it's soundscape is composed of African women's bubbly speech and songs. In the background you can also hear noises from the street and the surrounding village. The exhibition – which will run until March 24 at Stoa, the Cultural Center of Eastern Helsinki – also presents Kenya and women's groups' activities in the country in photographs by Uupi Tirronen. 

FIN Viikko vielä! Osaksi kierrätysmateriaaleista valmistettujen Mifuko-tuotteiden ystävänä en voinut missata Mari Martikaisen ja Minna Impiön yhdessä kenialaisten naisten kanssa virkkaamaa "You and I General Store" -yhteisöteosta, joka on punainen kuin Keniassa talojen alareunat ja vaatteet värjäävä maaväri ja jonka äänimaisema koostuu afrikkalaisten naisten puheensorinasta ja laulusta. Lisäksi kuuluu ääniä kadulta ja ympäröivästä kylästä. Näyttelyssä – joka jatkuu Stoassa 24.3 saakka – esitellään myös naisryhmien toimintaa ja Keniaa valokuvaaja Uupi Tirrosen ottamissa valokuvissa. 

ITA Ancora una settimana! Sono una sostenitrice dei prodotti Mifuko, parzialmente ricavati da materiali riciclati, e non potevo mancare alla mostra intitolata "You and I General Store" di Mari Martikainen e Minna Impiö, cioè un opera d'arte comunale preparata in collaborazione con donne keniote. Il pezzo, tutto fatto all' uncinetto, è rosso come la terra in Kenya che colora sia i bordi inferiori delle case sia i vestiti. Il paesaggio sonoro è composto dal chiacchierio spumeggiante e dalle canzoni delle donne africane, e, in sottofondo, si possono anche sentire rumori dalla strada e del villaggio circostante. La mostra – che si protrarrà fino al 24 marzo a Stoa, uno dei centri culturali a Helsinki – presenta anche il Kenya e le attività dei gruppi di donne nelle foto di Uupi Tirronen.
