"Sisusta risusta"

ENG It's All Saints' weekend, and I'm going to go for a long walk with my younger goddaughter Nea ​​(4) and her mother, my friend Rita. Maybe we'll also take out my neighbor Pia's dog Messi? And gather some twigs together?

Finnish Raija Puukko and Marjo Koivumäki's Sisusta risusta ('stylish sticks', or 'decorate with sticks' by Atena, 2012) recommends gathering twigs in the spring before buds open or in the autumn, when the leaves have fallen, and that's now! We're in the city but it sounds wonderful how the author describes trips in search of twigs turning out the most enjoyable walks in the forest, having a picnic lunch and brewing a cup of coffee in front of the campfire, while contemplating ideas for the use of natural materials.

The book is divided into six chapters: Roots of inspiration; Basic supplies, equipment and collection; Lovely wreaths; Nature on walls; Atmospheric table decorations; and Sculptural decoration. In the Roots of inspiration, Raija Puukko writes how she got interested in the subject when the Danish flower artist Tage Andersen visited Finland in the early 1990s. I also went to the show with my ex-mother-in-law and remember how impressed I was with all the pointed cushions and rusty flower arrangement frames (I must still have a couple of postcards from the exhibition somewhere).

You can only imagine how beautiful the following sofa transformation sounds in my Recyclie ears:

Rattan cords that had frayed over the years were removed with pruning shears. They were replaced by screwing in place straight silver willow branches. The seat cover is a woolen nomadic rug from the 70's, and a cushion sewn of an old woolen skirt and decorated with buttons acts as padding. The twig basket was woven 70 cm high to perfectly fit a bunch of cow parsley stems, and the work of art on the wall was composed of birch twigs woven into a rack and decorated with rosettes. (Transl. FIN Minä aion pyhäinpäiväviikonloppuna mennä pitkälle kävelylle nuoremman kummityttöni Nean (4) ja hänen äitinsä, ystäväni Ritan kanssa. Ehkä viemme ulos myös naapurin Pian Messi-koiran? Ja keräämme yhdessä risuja?

Raija Puukon ja Marjo Koivumäen Sisusta risusta -kirjassa (Atena, 2012) kehotetaan keräämään risut keväällä ennen silmujen puhkeamista tai syksyllä, kun lehdet ovat pudonneet, eli nyt! Me olemme kaupungissa, mutta kuulostaa ihanalta, kun kirjailija kuvaa, kuinka "risunhakureissuista voi tehdä nautinnollisia metsäretkiä, syödä retkieväitä ja kiehauttaa nokipannukahvit tervastulen ääressä. Tulen leimussa syntyy myös hyviä ideoita luonnonmateriaalien käyttöön."

Kirja on jaettu kuuteen lukuun: Inspiraation juuret, Perustarvikkeet, -välineet ja keräys, Ihanat kranssit, Luontoa seinille, Tunnelmalliset pöytäkoristeet ja Veistokselliset sisustusesineet, ja Inspiraation juurissa Raija Puukko kertoo innostuneensa aiheesta, kun tanskalainen kukkataiteilija Tage Andersen vieraili Suomessa 1990-luvun alkupuolella. Minäkin kävin näyttelyssä ex-anoppini kanssa, ja muistan vaikuttuneeni perinpohjin suipoista tyynyistä ja ruosteisista kukka-asetelmakehikoista (muutama niitä kuvaileva korttikin on varmasti vielä jossakin tallessa).

Kirjassa myös tuunataan, ja voit vain kuvitella, kuinka kauniilta seuraava katkelma Recyclien korvissa kuulostaa: 

Ajan saatossa hapertuneet rottinkisohvan punokset leikattiin pois oksasaksilla. Tilalle ruuvattiin suorahkot hopeapajun oksat. Istuimen päällä on täyttää villaa oleva 70-luvun paimentolaismatto. Selkäpehmusteena toimii vanhasta villahameesta toteutettu tyyny, joka on koristeltu napein. Risukori on kudottu 70 cm korkeaksi, joten koiranputket sopivat siihen mainiosti. Seinällä oleva taideteos on koottu hyllyritilään pujotelluista koivurisuista, koristeena rosetit.
